A tomato field came to Philadelphia’s City Hall on Oct. 15 where families were invited to ‘PICK’ a tomato and enjoy a complimentary lunch to support Philabundance. Philabundance is a non-profit food bank that serves the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region of Pennsylvania, United States. It is the largest such organization in the region, according to Wiki. Since I am practically still new to the area I keep on learning about how I can be of help to those in need.
Families were brought together to know more about the region’s largest hunger relief organization as well as educating them about what makes the most delicious tomatoes.
Muir Glen, the leading organic tomato producer, and Sum Pig and Street Food Philly food trucks came out to prove that people can find delicious tomatoes outside of the growing season that bring the best flavor to all types of recipes. Muir Glen playfully simulated its field-grown, vine-ripened tomato fields by lining City Hall’s plaza with small red boxes with green tags:
a. Each box had a free can of Muir Glen tomatoes, a recipe, and an invitation for a free meal made with Muir Glen’s mouth-watering tomatoes at a nearby food truck.
b. For every can “picked” and the coupon redeemed for a free meal, another was donated to Philabundance.
Further donations will be made every time someone samples a limited-time item made with Muir Glen products from Sum Pig and Street Food Philly through Nov. 10, 2013.
