We were able to test the device with an iPhone and service included with Verizon Wireless Philadelphia Tri-State Region folks. All opinions and photos, are my own.
We have had a bit of traveling time and find ourselves in the car for a bit, going to church, which is about 45 minutes away, or going to other activities that are further away than normal. Although my husband and I enjoy our smartphones, we do not allow our children to play with them ever. We do not even have televisions in the car but we have found that music, coloring books, and even reading is just enough for our girls. When we had a chance to test and review the Creativity Camera by Leapfrog, I was excited to see how my almost three year old would respond to it. I pretty much assumed by daughter would understand the purpose of the camera.
The Creativity Camera by LeapFrog requires an iPhone or iPod touch to work and is immediately ready for use once the free app has been downloaded to the phone. Once the app starts running the iPhone is placed inside the camera and the camera door is closed with the program ready to run. While the product is geared for kids ages 3 to 6 years old, my daughter started using it 2 months ago, which is 5 months before her 3rd birthday. I walked her through the games, the camera capabilities and even the filters.
Since our family is big on taking photos all the time, this camera was very attractive for my toddler. She felt special having her own camera with special capabilities. What I liked is that the parent’s iPhone is protected so the child can safely play with the app. The most favorite education activity I loved was exploring shapes and documenting emotions with photos. It was quite hilarious because I would help my daughter recognize the emotion and then copy the emotion in a photo.
There was a particular game she could play on her own was a matching game that allowed her to drag the moving pictures with her finger to the matching picture. We took this camera in the car and during play time at home. My youngest really wanted to play with it only because she saw her sister play with it but just letting her look at it was just enough.
This camera would definitely be great for kids during car rides, trips, or any time for educational purposes. It was sad when we had to return it since my daughter asked for it the next few weeks.
